Oduma Essan, a Nigerian musician residing in Ghana, has filed a lawsuit against Lynx Entertainment signee Kuami Eugene for his song “Show Body,” which was released on October 9, 2020.
According to Oduma, Kuami Eugene dropped what he considers the duplicate of his original work “Show Body” on
October 9, 2020, without his authorization, after the music and video of his “Show Body” song were released on July 17
and September 5, 2020, respectively, in Nigeria.
Comparing both songs, they share the same title ‘Show Body’.
In his photograph, Oduma Essan donned a lion leather garment and was known as “Lion of Africa.”
In his photo, Kuami Eugene sported a lion hide robe and was known as “Son of Africa.”
In his song video, Oduman chose a high-tempo version of “Show Body” as the hook. In his music video, Kuami Eugene utilized a low-tempo version of “Show Body” as the hook.
In his song video, he used the phrase “step to the dance floor” as a main topic. The phrase “Baby walk in the circle and
dance to the beat” was used as a main topic in Kuami Eugene’s music video.
Throughout the song video, the singer sung in English before switching to his native Nigerian Easa language at certain
Kuami also sang in English and then switched to Twi at certain times in his video.
Oduma went on to say that he was earning a lot of views on YouTube, which may lead to cash rewards, but it all came to an end when Kuami replicated his “Show Body” music video and had it publicly broadcast on YouTube on October 9,
He is asking GHc 120,000 in damages for the expense of his video production, sound engineering, mixing, and advertising of the songs at the Accra High Court, citing his Copyright right and economic infringement.
